Columbus Legends, Nerd Table, made a new album called CHASING THE BRONCO!
There are so many guests on this album, even Ron Jeremy!!!
Former members of Nirvana, Aaron Burckhard and Dale Crover, helped to make a special track "Floyd The Barber", which is a Nirvana song.

I am grateful to also be a part of this album, playing guitar and keyboard on two songs.

Those are songs from Parents' EP, "Sexual Baptism", which I worked on last year. Few weeks ago, they and I recorded tracks for their upcoming album, and we need one more day for overdubbing for the album. They will play a show this Friday. Oct. 28, at Trip in Santa Monica with Stephen Brower & the Silent Majority whom I worked on their album "sb/sm" this summer.

Meanwhile, I am mixing songs for Leda Atomica. They play a show at O'Brien's Irish Pub & Restaurant this Friday as well. It's in Santa Monica! I would see those three bands on Friday and hope to see you guys too.

In 2007, Deaf Nephews(Dale Crover and me) produced thier frist full length album, and last fall, I went to Denver to record their second album and mixed it this spring.

I had a meeting with my old friend, Vince DeFranco, at his office last week. Vince has been making Synesthesia Mandala drums for years. The drums have been Danny Carey's secret weapons for live and recording. He showed the depth of the drums and their software "Virtual Brain". The drums are not typical drum pads. I have been learning about the software since the meeting. Since I am not a drummer, I use this software some different purposes. Vince gave me some tips and some modifications to me!!! This would be my secret weapon, soon.

Cheeky Melvins/Karp/Murder City Devils/White Shit/etc-associated sludge-rock heroes Big Business are celebrating the late 2010 addition of fourth member, guitarist Scott Martin of Crom/400 Blows, and upcoming tour with aesthetic allies Torche by following 2009′s Mind The Drift with the Quadruple Single 12″ EP on their very own, recently launched new label Gold Metal. As the EP’s title suggests, it’s four songs, each strong enough to be its own single. Get a taste via mighty opener “Always Never Know When To Quit.”

After a long talk where the Biz stayed up all night crying, Toshi decided that he needed to stay home and honor some recording obligations. They wish he could come, but they’ll be sure to do something creepy to acknowledge his absence like leave his guitar on stage with a fog machine blowing ethereal smoke at it’s base, implying that Toshi is playing with them from another realm. They’re probably too lazy to pull that off, but Toshi wishes Coady, Jared, and Scott a safe trip anyway.

70年代にデビューし、90年代から現在に渡りトークラジオでもの凄い人気を保っているHoward SternのショーでDaleが電話でインタビューされた。

数週間前、Dave Grohlがゲストでこのラジオショーに出た時、歴代のNirvanaのドラマー、そしてDaleの話が出て非常に盛り上がった。その流れで電話インタビューへと繋がった。

前半は”Nirvanaに何故残らなかったのか？”、”後悔していないのか？”としつこい攻撃にあっていたが、後半はMelvinsを聴いた事なかったHowardが徐々にその”良さ”を分かり始め、なんとなくDaleが取った行動を理解する様子が伝わって来る。ちなみに彼がショーの中で止めたり、かけたりしてるCDは新作の”Sugar Daddy"。一般のインタビューアーが聞いたら悪いような事をズバズバ聞いているのが非常に面白い。

Another Junk Yard Session

I just did another junk yard session. It's been three years since I did one with Peter for Serce. This time, I was with Tommy of Western Mystic. We used the same junk yard as last time. The manager of the junk yard remembered me. Huge cranes and trucks were up and running inside of the yard. So there were restricted areas and he let us use a part of the yard. He also found us some materials, such as a metal pipe and a huge chain, and showed us how to get great noises. We got some great sounds, are going to edit those as samples! You will hear those on songs of Western Mystic!

Melvins Live Album On The Way

The Melvins will release a live album, entitled Sugar Daddy Live, this May.
The Melvins’ latest offering is a thirteen-track live recording, recorded at The Busta-Guts Club in Downey, California. The disc will hit the streets on May 31st via Ipecac Recording.

The band are currently in New Zealand with a forthcoming round of Australian dates as part of the Soundwave Festival. The Melvins were in Christchurch when the earthquake struck but escaped unscathed and are due to resume their tour later this week.

ニュージーランド大地震。

今さっき、家に帰ってネットのニュースを観た。現時点で死亡者が65人いると書いてあったので、現地近くにいるはずのMelvinsの面々に慌てて携帯で連絡を取った所、返事が返って来た。とりあえず皆無事。

バンで移動中だったようだがかなり地震の揺れを感じたそうだ。震源地のChristchurchには地震がおこる一時間前くらいにいたと言う。今は空港で足止めを食らっていると言う。

日本公演には影響はないと思う。彼らだけでは無いが、ミュージシャンとクルーにとってツアーと言うのはいつも事故とは紙一重。自分もツアーに行く事があるので恩義せがましく聞こえるかもしれないが、公演に足を運ぶ人はそう言った事をふまえて彼らを歓迎してもらいたい。

Denver Trip

A few months ago, I got a phone call from the band Action Friend from Denver, Colorado. Dale and I had produced their previous album a few years back. They told me that they found a studio there with a great deal, so they wanted me to go to Denver and work with them on their new material. The studio though, did not have enough recording devices, so I decided to drive there with some of my equipment. Since it takes 15 hours to get to Denver from L.A. by car, I wanted to get the most out of my trip while there and asked them to find another band for me to work with. They found me another group within a day, who are called the Skivies. The Skivies were only available though for two weekends worth of recording. So, I had to found some other bands to fill my weekdays up with for work. Action Friend proceeded to find another band for me to record with called Osyluth. Then, to top off things, a friend of mine found me one more band to work with called Tree. So I ended up recording four bands in 15 days!

Three days before I left for Denver, there was some miscommunication between Action Friend and the studio we supposed to work at, and so we canceled our studio time there. I told them to find a place where we can make some loud music. I would then bring my gear, so we wouldn't need to be in a commercial studio. Zahari, the guitar player from the Skivies found a community center in the town where he lives. It was an half hour drive from downtown Denver and was surrounded by woods. I recorded Action Friend and the Skivies there. The results of the recordings were way better than we had expected. It was a beautiful place full of nature and a great place to work. We saw deer and Sean from the Skivies had an encounter with a bear! He was far enough away from the bear so he could run back into the safety of the community center.

For the recording session with the Trees, we used a rehearsal studio of theirs. The guitar player, Justin, has a guitar craft shop, “Hackl Guitar”, right next to the rehearsal studio. I placed my gear in his shop and they played at the rehearsal studio next door. Outside of his guitar shop, there is an empty area surrounded by concrete walls. So we decided to use this ambient space to record some of the drum tracks with. The audio results of that were amazing.

The last band I recorded was Osyluth. We recorded at the drummer, Dan's basement. They are such a good band that they finished their basic tracking in two hours, and we ended up recording two whole songs in one day!

This trip was a great experience for me. I recorded four amazing bands and made a lot of new friends. The hospitality I received from everyone there was superb. I'd like to do it again. Since my return to L.A., I have been mixing all of the songs I recorded in Denver. There are more than 35 of them so a long way to go still.

Denver録音旅行記(後編)

19日、休み。とは言っても20日からのTreesの録音を控えて、それに向け機材を移動しなければならない。4時間の睡眠の後、TreesのギターのJHの仕事場に機材を運び込む。JHはギター職人でその仕事場の隣がTreesのリハーサルスタジオになっている。
機材を運び終え、友人の家へ向かう。前から約束していた、フットボールの試合を観る事になる。大学フットボールは観た事があるがNFLの試合は生まれて初めて。駐車場ではテールゲートパーティーが行われている。バスを改造して、BBQのグリルを詰めるようにしたるものや、派手な格好の人々が目につく。見知らぬ人にビアーボング(点滴の用に上から管をたらして一気飲みする)を強制させられる。ホームオープン試合ともあり3機のF16が頭上を一瞬にして遠ざかる等の派手な幕開け。試合もホームチーム、Broncosが一方的に責める。40度くらいの暑さで席が暑い。この試合はBroncos史上最高の暑さらしい。
試合の後は食事を済ませバンドの面々と合流。AFのPA、JM、SkiviesのZとTreesのJHの彼女の働くバーで飲む。黒ビールを数杯飲んだ後、Treesの録音に控え、PAの家で就寝。

20日、Trees録音一日目。残りのメンバー、ベースのMFCとドラムのDJMとこのとき初めて会う。JHとDJMとの付き合いは古く、DJMの完璧主義に昔からかなり気を使って録音や練習をしていた事を聞いていた。この録音もおわらないのではとJHは心配していた。はじめのうちはそれらしき、言い方をしていたが、自分の楽観主義(It's Only Rock 'n Roll, baby)にDJMは次第になじみ始めた。JHもそれが見えて来てホッとした表情。このバンドは全ての曲が繋がっているため、曲と言うよりパートと言っていた。3パートを終えこの日は終了。JHの家に世話になる。

21日、Trees録音二日目。気を良くした、DJMは7パートを予定より早く終わらせる。MFCとDJMはともにバーテンダーなのでこの日は早く引き上げ、JHと二人でギター録りを始める。10時半からLAの友人がたまたまツアーで来ていたのでそれを観にJHと街に出る。それを観終え、MFCの働くバーに飲みに行く。

22日、Trees録音三日目、朝起き、路上駐車していた所に行くと駐車違反のチケットを切られていた、30分オーバーだった。録音はギターがメイン。この夜は彼らの友人の働くバー、Sputnikに飲みに行く。バーで食事も取る。お勧めはタコスとコーンドック。

23日、Trees録音四日目(最終日)、Machinegun Bluesと言うバンドのJHWがJHとともにやって来た。自分の提案でJHの仕事場の外の空き地でDJMとJHWのドラムオーバーダブを行う。JHが一番興奮していた。録音を無事に追え、片付けをして次のバンド、Osyluthの指定するスタジオへ機材を積み移動。OsyluthのボーカルJWの勘違いで彼らの知人のスタジオを抑えようとしていた。ドアマーのDEとベースのAと合流して、そのスタジオに入る。入ると目に入ったのが、マリファナの栽培。数年アメリカの多くの州は免許があれば薬用のマリファナ栽培が可能になっている。とは言え、”患者”と偽り、一般人が買い求めるのは当たり前の事のようになっている。マリファナ栽培自体にはそれほど抵抗がないのだが、こう言った場所には危険が多い。スタジオでは他のバンドの録音が行われている。バンドのメンバーや友人かなんだか知らないが、その場所にいた数本の歯の抜けた女性も含め、皆が薬漬けにしか見えない。自分の機材をこんな場所に一晩置いて行きたくない。それをDEとAに話すと、DEは「自分の家の地下室はこのスタジオより大きいよ」と言うのでなにも言わずにその場から立ち去りDEの家に向かう。機材を運び入れ、ある程度録音の準備をした後、JHの家を向かう。
JHとはMachinegun Bluesのライブを観に行く約束をしていたので急いで会場に向かう。会場は昨日夕飯を取ったSputnikと隣接しているHi-Dive。数人の客が自分の事を知っていると言って来て、酒を持って来る。断る訳には行かず、運転もしなくてよいのでがばがば飲んでしまった。

24日、Osyluth録音。朝起きると久々の二日酔い。なんとかDEの家に着くが、二日酔いと睡眠不足でなかなか仕事に気がはいらない。プロ失格．．．と思い、気を取り直す、二日酔いを覚ます、それと体を起こさせるため、近所を散歩する。15分ほど歩くとかなり気が楽になり始めた。Osyluthは予算と時間の都合で一日で2曲のみの録音。16時間仕事をした後、機材を今度はSkiviesのオーバーダブをするため、彼らのリハーサルスタジオに移動。荷物を降ろして後、AFの連中とライブを観に行く予定であったが間に合わず、ライブの後に会場前で会う。その後、PAの家に世話になる。

25日、Skivies録音三日目。右足のふくらはぎがひきつりその痛みで目を覚ます。ストレッチをしてなんとか持ちこたえたが、さすがに疲れが溜まって来た事を確認。SkiviesとAFのリハーサルスタジオは隣り合わせになっている為、AFのスタジオに自分の機材を立ち上げ、廊下にケーブルをひき、本格的なスタジオ同様にオーバーダブを始める。スタジオの近所でTreesのライブがあったのだが、録音が大幅に遅れ、それを断念。スタジオから一番近いベースのS家に厄介になる。

26日、Skivies録音三日目(最終日)。9時半にSの家を出て、コーヒーを買ってスタジオに入り、即録音に入る。この夜もTreesのライブがあるのでそれを観るのに早めに終わらせなければ行けないのでペースを上げ、録音が進む。AFのメンバーも合流して、録音を終え、機材を片付け、会場に向かう。この夜も数人に酒を進められたが、機材を車に積め、30分街からはなれたZの家まで運転しなければならないのでそれを断りライブを観る。Skivies、AFの面々もそのライブに圧巻されたようだ。Zとスタジオに戻り自分の車に荷物を積み込み、Zの家へ向かう。

27日、移動日。朝目を覚ますと9時半だった。Zと近所のレストランで朝食を済ませた後、Coloradoを出発。7時間くらい走るとUtahの山が燃えている。その山を廻るように走り、方角を西から南に変える。Las Vegasに入る頃が一番きつく思えた。ガソリンも切れかけたので一時休憩を取る。コーヒーと軽い夜食を買い、コンタクトがかなり乾いていたので眼鏡に換えて運転。Las Vegasを抜ける手前で警察に止められる。テールライトが切れていた。フューズが切れているだろうから、直すようにと言われただけで済んだ。次の出口のガソリンスタンドでそれを直し、再出発。15時間の運転の後、ようやく家に着く。昼間は45度あったらしい。その暑さが残っていて非常に寝苦しく思えたが疲れで暑さも忘れて就寝。15日間のDenver滞在を15時間の運転で幕を閉じる事となった。暫く運転する気にはなりそうにない。

Denver録音旅行記(前編)

9月11日、前日の夜に車に荷物を積んでいたので5時に起床した後、シャワーを浴びて出発。40分過ぎた運転した高速でいきなり後ろのタイヤの一つがパンク。たまたま街を抜ける前だったので修理工を見つけ全てのタイヤを取り替える。開店まで待たされた上、自分の前に2人の客がいたため、修理を終えるまで２時間の遅れが出る。その後はホテルを抑えていたUtah州Green Riverまで順調。Uathを北上した後、東に向かうのだが、東に進むほど、この世の景色とは思えないほどの自然の美しさが広がる。10時間強運転した後、ホテルに着き、一旦、荷物を降ろし就寝。

12日、またも5時起き。薄暗いなかUtahを抜けColoradoに入る。Denverに着いたのは12時半くらい。SkiviesのDJとZ、それとAction FriendのPAと合流。食事を済ませた後、Dの計らいでColorado Rockiesの試合を観に行く。ベテラン大打者、Jason Giambiのさよならホームランで幕を閉じる。
野球を観終え、Action Friendのギター、JLと合流。当初は彼らの知人のスタジオを借りるはずだったが、予算との交渉が合わず出発3日前にそれを断る事になる。PAは代わりを見つけるのにかなり悩んだと言う。結局、Zの住む町(村と言った方が良い)の市民会館を借りて録音する事に決まった。そこに向かい機材を運び込む。Denverから車で30分離れた山の中。

13日、Action Friend録音一日目。4曲ほど終える。この市民会館録音と言うのにかなり疑問を感じていたPAだったが数曲を終えると表情が柔らかくなった。勿論、自分はこう言う場所での録音が好きなのでわくわくしていた。Zから送られた写真を観てにやけてたほど、予想通り、良いドラム録りが出来た。

14日、AF録音二日目。残りの10曲を一気に終える。その途中、近所のバーで早い夕食。ロッキー・マウンテン・オイスター(牛の睾丸を揚げたもの)を初めて口にする。思った以上に美味い。

15日、AF録音三日目。ギターとベースの直しとオーバーダブ。村の共和党の会議が開かれるので6時に会館を明け渡す。機材を彼らのリハーサルスタジオに移す。その後初めて待ちに飲みに出る。Trees(3バンド目)を紹介してくれたEの働く、Three Kingsで飲みながらライブを観る。良いバンドが幾つかあった。TreesのJHとそこで合流。

16日、AF録音四日目(最終日)。リハーサルスタジオでの録音。ギター、パーカッション、そしてAF初のボーカル録り。歌はベースのAR。深夜に終了。明日のSkiviesのセッションの為、また自分の機材を車に戻す。Skiviesの面々は夜のうちに市民会館でセッティングを終える。

17日、Skivies録音一日目。また市民会館に戻り録音機材のセッティング。ドラム録りが始まったのは4時過ぎ。ドラマーのCは家族の問題等が最近あり、あまり練習に集中出来なかったようでかなり苦戦。一曲を録音した所でその日はリタイア。会館から3分ほどのZの家にベースのS以外が泊まる。

18日、Skivies録音二日目。朝目が覚めるの庭には4頭の鹿が芝を食べに来ている。昨日とは打って変わってCのドラムは順調。夕飯には南部出身のDJの妻、DKがガンボを作ってくれた。それを食べ終えるとCはかなり気分を良くしたか当初は3、4曲のつもりであったが終わってみれば9曲。Cは自分にのせられたと上機嫌。最後から2曲目を聴きなおしていた時、タバコを吸いに外に出ていたSが戻って来て、真っ青な顔をして残りのメンバーと自分になにかを言っている。皆が「聴こえねーよ！」と言うとSは「熊が外にいる。自分の方に向かって来たが途中で引き返した」と固唾を飲みながら小声で言っている。皆は一気に窓から様子を伺い、熊が近く似にいない事を確認して外に出て熊を探す。が、どこかに行ってしまったようだ。ドラム録りを終え、片付けをして、またZの家に世話になる。床に着いた時には朝の3時を回っていた。

Myspace等で知っている人もいるかも知れないが、Big Businessに4人目が参加した。現在、LAで人気のあるローカルバンド、400 Blowsに所属するScott Martinがギターを弾く事になる。勿論、自分も続けるが、スタジオの仕事も辞められないので、今まではライブだと時々2人(Melvinsが忙しいのでそれほどなかったが)になったりしていたがこれからは3人になったり4人になったりすると思われる。

これは自分が加入する時に既に話し合っていたことでもある。CoadyとJaredの2人は自分がレコーディングの仕事を自分が辞められない事を知っていた。彼らも年の半分以上はMelvinsとの仕事をしているため、自分がBig Businessだけで食って行けるような事は考えてはいなかった。

Scottが入る事によって、アルバム、ライブにも更にギターハーモニー等に磨きがかかる事は間違えない。そして自分はもう少し、加入した当時ライブで行っていた、シンセや玩具楽器による演奏にも集中していきたい。もう少し歌にも力を入れたいとも思っている。

ともあれ、現在練習と曲作りを開始。Melvinsのツアーもあるので直ぐに実現するとは思わないがアルバム制作に取りかかることも間違えない。これからも新生Big Businessをよろしく。

まだ確認はしていなが、このアルバムがビルボードのチャート200位にランクされたらしい。彼ら、自分はこれで金持ちになる、と言うようなことは絶対にあり得ない話なのだが、彼が注目されるのは非常に嬉しい。前にこのアルバムの事を書く時、”日本ではオリコン初登場20位”って冗談で書こうと思ったが、アメリカでは冗談ではなくなった。192位くらいまで上がってほしいものだ。

しつこいようだが、Melvinsの新作、"The Bride Screamed Murder"が6月2日にDaymare Recordingsから発売される。それに付け加え、最近知った事だが、2003年にイギリスで作られた、1993-1996年のAtlantic時代のベスト盤、Melvinmaniaが国内盤となって、GraindHouse Recordingsより同じ日に発売される。最近ファンになった人、それらの廃盤になったCDを探している人には良い話かもしれない。ボーナストラックも付くらしい。

しつこいようだけど、"The Fear is Excruciating, But Therein Lies the Answer"が日本だと前作のEP、"Aphorisms"と合わせて発売される(ている？9日だと思ったけど．．．)。販売元はDaymare(http://mixi.jp/view_community.pl?id=129889)。
音楽業界が沈んでいるとか言うけど、バンド、レーベルが減っているようには感じられないし、ライブでぶいぶい言わせているバンドが自分の周りにも多い。Red Sparowesもその中の一つ。アメリカやヨーロッパではかなりのの人気を誇っている。このアルバムのメディアの評価も高い！でも日本だとどうだろう？大人気とは決して言えない。
こういった感じのバンドの存在も多くは感じられない。別に斬新で狂ったような感じを受けるヘビーさがあるわけでもノイズでギャンギャン言わせている訳でもない。でもこういったちょっと懐かしいようで新しいようで、聴いていて心地が良く、またヘビーな面もあるバンドがもっといても良いんじゃないかとも思う。
商売だろうから人気のあるものをかき回すのはわかるけど、ちょっとこういった変わったバンドもメディアで取り上げてもらいたいものだ。仕事上、自分にとっては自信作の一枚でもある。多くの人に聴いてもらいたい。日本でもっと人気が上がり彼らが来日できるチャンスが来る事を願う。買って皆に言いふらしてほしい！マジでよろしく！

Melvins Session 12、13、14日目。

12日目、

今日の映画はGhost Busters, Tron等。2曲ミックス終了。

13日目、

のって来た。一気に4曲。今日の映画はClint Eastwoodドル箱三部作の2作、『荒野の用心棒』(原題：Per un pugno di dollari、英題：A Fistful of Dollars)と『夕陽のガンマン』(原題：Per qualche dollaro in più 英題：For a Few Dollars More)。ちなみに『荒野の用心棒』は黒澤明監督の『用心棒』の許可無しのパクリ。ミックスしている曲が映画に非常に合う。AdamとPageがすれ違いでスタジオに顔を出す。

14日目、

最終日。昨日の時点でアルバムに入る曲のミックスは終了。一曲の手直しをしてリミックスの作業。やりたい放題。途中、AdamとPage、HELMETのドラマーがKyle同じ時間にスタジオに遊びに来たのでそれらとアルバムの視聴会。前2作的なアルバムを予想していた彼らはその違いに驚いた様子。Buzzは自分にリミックスを任せ早めに帰宅。Daleが一人残り自分とClem Burkeの弾いた曲のテイクを選び、その後帰宅。自分は一人残り、リミックスを続ける。一曲以外全てのリミックスを終え、２週間続いたセッションの幕を閉じる。

Melvins Session 9、10、11日目。

9日目、

CoadyはMurder City Devilのショーがあるため、雪が降るNew Yorkへ向かい、録音最終日は欠席。残されたDaleのパーカッションから入る。その後はJaredの曲にほぼ集中。ボーカルに効果音を足して録音。非常にサイケデリックな感じに鳴って来た。仕上げにBuzzのギター。Buzzは完全に曲を把握していないようで、曲を覚えながら弾く。最後に曲を一気に聴いて、足りないものはないか確認し、ちょっとしたものを録音して、録音は無事終了。

10日目、

スタジオBに移り、ミックス開始。遅めの曲から入り、2曲終了。スタジオも前回、前々回とは違うものであり、その上、曲作りもかなり試行を変えて来ている。今までの4人編成とはかなりちがった味になってきているのは2曲を終了した時点ではっきりしてきた。

11日目、

Buzzの提案により、スタジオの壁に埋め込まれているメインスピーカーの間にある、テレビモニターにDVDをつなぎ、映画を音無で観ながら、ミックス。今日はLawrence of Arabia(アラビアのロレンス)を観ながら2曲ミックス。曲ごとにギター、ベースの音が多少異なって録音したのがミックス時に非常に効果的になってきた。

Melvins Session 7、8日目。

7日目、

ボカール録りに集中。一曲はJaredがメインをつとめる曲。他に一曲、Daleがメイン。この曲はクラッシックMelvinsとでも言うべき曲。Buzzは自分の持って来たStylophoneが気に入ったようで、一曲で早速使っていた。Coadyは今までスタジオの中で撮った画像をコンピューターで編集している。

8日目、

録音作業も大詰め。Jaredのボーカルにしばし集中。先日遊びに来た、Blondieのドラマー、Clem Burkeに演奏を頼んでいたようで、急遽、カバー曲を準備。残された、マイクでCoadyとDaleのドラム録り。夕方食事を済ませ、数曲のラフミックスを行い、タイミングよくClemが予定通りにスタジオに到着。曲を2度ほど聴いた後、録音開始。Blondieのみならず、IggyやBob Dylan、Pete Townshend等とセッションを重ねた経験が1テイク目から感じられる。興奮して無意味に、マイクを直しに行ったりしてしまった。ソロではかなりジャズを勉強した感じに聴こえて来た。帰り際、ClemはMelvinsの面々に向かって、「声をかけてくれてありがとう。Melvinsと演奏できるとは思わなかった。嬉しいよ」と自分の事のように嬉しく思える言葉をかけてくれた。
無事Clemの録音を終了した後、Buzzは自分に「Blondieの一人を録音したんだ。Melvinsを録音していて良かっただろう？」と聴いて来たので、笑いながら、「Melvinsと仕事して初めて良い経験が出来たよ」と２人で大笑い。

残った時間を使って、遊び曲を録音。当初の予定では自分がピアノを弾くはずであったが、録音の方が手薄になるのでDaleがピアノとドラムを担当。Jaredが口でベースラインを歌う。これがあまりにも面白くて涙が出て来た。楽し過ぎて怖い。

Melvins Session 5、6日目。

5日目、

口内炎が治り始めて来た。ようやく本格的に楽しくなって来た。スタジオにつき仕事をして間もなく、Coadyが食事を買って来てくれると言う。In 'n Out！久々にスープ以外の物を口にした。自分がそれを頬張る見て、Buzzが「In 'n Outを食べれるなら、口はほぼ治ったってことだな。これからうるさくなるなぁ」とイヤミを言ってくる。
仕事中、子育てで疲れているのか、Daleが高いびきをしてソファーで寝ている。自分の持って来たメガフォンのサイレンを頭の近くでならして起こす。その模様はCoadyのカメラに収められた。
Coadyはラップトップのカメラを使いライブ画像送信(http://www.ustream.tv/channel/coadydrums)。あらかじめ、Twitterでリンクを載せていたようで数十人のファンがそれを観ている。
ギター録り、ボーカル録りに集中。ハーモニーはうるさい自分はようやく喋るようになったのであれこれ言いプロダクションにもようやく気が入って来た。セッションの後半はラフミックスを作り始める。面白いアルバムになる事を確認。

6日目、

昨日まで十数個あった口内炎が数個に減った。仕事は昨日とほぼ同じでボーカルに集中。コンピューター録音の利点を生かし、効果音を交えて数トラック同時にボーカルを録る。今日の秘密兵器は自作チューブマイク。と言っても真空管のマイクではなく鉄のチューブにマイクを入れてそのチューブの効果音を録音しているだけの事。これがなかなかいい音で鳴ってくれた。
ボーカルを休め、ベース録りを行う。無事全てのベースが終了。その後、ギター、ドラムオーバーダブに力を入れる。今日もラフミックスを数曲作りセッション終了。

Melvins Session 3、4日目

3日目

スタジオにつき仕事を始めようとすると、Daleの所にJaredから電話が入り、スタジオの直ぐ近くで車が止まり動かなくなったと連絡が入った。皆で車押し。Buzzは「車を押すのは10代以来だ」と冗談を言いながら車を押していた。
スタジオに戻るとレコードが数枚入ったダンボールの箱がスタジオの入り口に置かれている。数ヶ月前に頼まれたリミックスのEP(http://www.timebomb.co.jp/prod/datail/22435.html ).。ミックス自体は前回のセッションで終わらせていたが、それをマスタリングして送るよう頼まれていた。それが手元に届いた。
セッション開始。自分の口内炎最悪。しゃべると舌が悲鳴をあげる。食べ物、飲み物を食べようとすると頭に痛みが響く。セッションにも集中し辛い。
歯を食いしばりセッションを行う。一日中ドラム録り。ドラムのオーバーダブも有り、一曲に関してはドラムのみで41チャンネル。前回での録音の、最高63チャンネルを超す勢い。
セッション終了間際、Melvinsの友人、Bがその友人とともにスタジオに遊びに来た。その友人はBlondieのドラマー、Clem Burke。後で来た話だが、ドラムのオーバーダブをしていてDaleはClemのが来たのでかなり緊張していたと言う。演奏自体では分からなかったが、顔を見た時、そんな気はした。

4日目

口内炎続くの痛みは続く。全く良くなったようには思えない。Buzzが冗談を言うが痛みで全く面白く聞こえない。
今日は一曲ボーカル録音から入る。Buzzのボーカルを終えた後、4人のギャング・ボーカル。この曲はちょっと変わっているのでドラムより先にボーカルを録り、その上でドラムを録音。その曲と他の一曲の後半を録り、ドラム録りが無事終了。ベース録りに入る。ベースは前回、前々回とちょっと試行を変え、曲ごとに音を少し変えて録音。自分が思うにはHostile Ambient Takeover時の色々なベースの音が入ったアルバムになるような予感がして来た。
