"Sound the Horn" from "Milagrosa"

On their Myspace, TOTIMOSHI put a song called "Sound the Horn" from their upcoming album, "Milagrosa." The album will be out on July 8th, produced by Page Hamilton, added vocals by Page and Mike Kissam, played the jaws harp by some genius guy, and recorded and mixed by a sexy man. If you don't like the song, that's your problem.

Melvin Session 8日目

風邪で一日寝込んでいたと言うJaredが12時過ぎに到着。完全復活したと言う。ベースで直したい部分があると言うので今日はそれから始まった。その後はJaredがメインのボーカルを２曲録る。一曲はすんなり終わったのだが、２曲目はアイディアがまだはっきりしていないと言う。ラフ・ミックス（レコード途中で進展を家等で聴けるように作るいい加減なミックス）を渡しそれを聴きながらアイディアをもう一度練り始める。
それが終わると、BuzzはJaredが歌うはずの２曲目は長過ぎると判断。前半はギターやベースが入っているのだが、その部分を使わず、後半のドラムの部分だけを使うと言う。後半の歌詞のアイディアは既にあったようでJaredがボーカル、ベースを弾き、それにDaleとCoadyが”声”を加える。かなり実験的な曲でそれぞれがなんだかの機材を使って録音。今日は自分も一曲、シンセを録音した。
今日は友人達も何人か遊びに来た。先日一緒に仕事をしたTotimoshiとそのプロデューサーでHelmetのPage Hamiltonも遊びに来た。Pageは90年前半からMelvinsと交友関係にある。今日はあまり仕事をしていないBuzzと昔の話で盛り上がっていた。
７時を過ぎ、全ての録音が終了。ミックスの準備に入る。夕飯はJaredがステーキを焼いてくれた。それを食べ終わると自分だけがスタジオに残りミックスの準備をした。

Just got back from Oakland!

Just finished making an album with Totimoshi, produced by Page Hamilton, assisted by Adam Myatt at Sharkbite studios in Oakland California. I just came back from Oakland. The album will be out around May. Songs and their production are awesome. And the sound... I can't explain. I'm just a pure genius...not. Recently, I finished a project with a band, Oaks from San Diego, California. They put songs on their Myspace, so check those out!
Also, pretty soon, I will start a project with a band, Melvins from Aberdeen, Washington.

Oaklandよりさっき帰宅。Totimoshiと言うOakland出身のバンドを手がけに１０日間のセッションが無事終了。プロデュースにはHELMETのPage Hamiltonを起用。出来は最高！５月頃にレーベルVolcomより発売予定。是非聴いてもらいたい。
去年の暮れに録音した、San Diego出身のバンド、OaksのMyspaceにて自分のプロデュースした曲が聴ける。
そしていよいよ、今週末からMelvinsの録音に入る。久々のツインドラム録音。旅から帰って来て疲れているが興奮気味！

Houston: 悪天候,悪印象

3月12日

移動日。

朝,目が覚めると口の中が芳しくない。不摂生からか口内炎がいくつも出来ている。昼頃に皆準備を済ませBBの友人宅から長旅に出発。朝食を取って いない為レストラン,ドラムの換えのヘッド買うために楽器の両方を探す事に。BBの2人は以前その楽器屋とその近くの日本料理屋に行った事があったらし い｡が一度しか行った事がなかったため30分近く探して見つからず,電話のインフォメーションでようやく見つけ出す。その日本料理屋はファーストフォード 店でセットメニューが売り物。自分が頼んだのは照り焼きどんぶり。味はそれほど良くなかった。口内炎の所為もあり味は分かり難くもなっていた。

注文を済ますとTOTIMOSHIのT-シャツを来た子供とその母親が店に入ってきた。彼等が注文を済ますと自分等の隣のテーブルに座った。昨日 会場に来ていたTOTIMOSHIの友人であることが分かった。地方公演に行くとこのように公演の次の朝,客の何人かに町で会う事が多い。彼女は昨日の ショーが凄く楽しかったと自分らに話し掛けてきた。彼女は自分の仕事のこともよく理解しているようで「何か面白いプロジェクトはないの?」など聞いてく る。昨日,彼女の友達が自分と話しているのに気付き,その友人が自分のことを知っているか聞いたと言う。その友人に「あなたは今凄い人と話していたのよ。 トシはMelvinsを4枚も手がけている人なのよ」と彼女は大のMelvinsファンである事を主張するとともに自分の事を買いかぶっているようだ。 「大袈裟だよ」と自分が言うと,すかさずJaredが「トシの仕事は良いけど,基本的に人間が悪いから誰も尊敬しないんだよ」と言い皆で爆笑。あまり美味 くはないが楽しい昼食となった。

食事を済ませ,隣の楽器屋でドラムヘッドを購入。ようやく高速に乗り町を出る。かなり遅れての出発となり,Texas州に入った時には夜中になっ ていた。高速から見える夜景の先に一つながり電灯の列｡Coadyが｢あの向こうはメキシコだよ!｣その向こう側が妙に寂しく思えた｡El Pasoと言うTexasの一番南西の町でホテルを取る事に。2人部屋に4人。荷物を降ろすと直ぐに"Easter Romantic"のキーの確認。こう言った時のためピアニカを持ってきておいた。CDの音源から半音下げで行っている事が判明。その模様をCoadyが ビデオに撮っている。コード確認が終わると皆でテレビを観始める。自分のもっとも好きな映画の一つ"Three Amigos(サボテン・ブラザース)"がやっていたのでそれを観ることに。メキシコが舞台にしたコメディー映画｡あの物悲しい景色も一気に忘れてしまっ た。疲れた時にはこう言った映画は最高。観終えた後,自分は寝袋で寝る。

3月13日

The White Swan Live: Houston, Texas

Phoenixからか出るのがかなり遅れたため,PhoenixからHoustonの2/3を今日一日で走らなくてはならなかった。約750マイ ル(1200km)。San Antonioを越えた辺りから大雨が降ってきた。Jaredも速度を落とし始める。かなり危険なドライブ｡数時間後,すでに開場されている会場に"無事 "に到着。荷卸の際にも雨は降りつづける。雨の中慌てて機材を運んでいると一人の酔っ払いが「お前達はビールを売っているのか？」と聞いてくる。機材を濡 らさないため必死になっている所にこのふざけた質問。危険な運転の後で気が立っていたのか,メンバーが声をそろえて「ビール売っているように見えるのか？ 忙しいのが分からないのか？」でもその男は「ビールが欲しいんだ」としつこく言ってくる。「邪魔だ,あっちいけ！」と何度か言うとようやくその場から立ち 去る。警備員は見てみぬふり。

楽屋で渇いた服に着替え準備を済ませる。ハウス・エンジニアは無愛想だが協力的。BBの出番となる。自分は何時もの通りミキシング・ブースでの演 奏とちょっとしたエンジニア作業。1曲目が始まって直ぐに中年のバーテンダーらしき男性(おそらく店のオーナー)がブースにやってくる。ハウス・エンジニ アの女性に何か話している。彼女は両手を方まで上げ"お手上げ"のポーズ。するとその男性は演奏中の自分に話し掛けてくる。「音がでかすぎる！近隣から苦 情が来てしまう!」と言って来る。自分は演奏中であまりにもくだらない文句だったので無視。1曲目が終わると店のものがJaredの近寄り,耳打ちする。 Jaredは"ええっ"と苦笑しながらアンプのボリュームを下げる。勿論,音量は大して変わっていない。自分はハウス・エンジニアと顔を見会わせ同時に" お手上げ"のポーズ。後で話した事だが,自分はJaredに｢ロックバンド雇って置いて"うるさい"はね～よな～｡だったらJames Taylor(フォーク･アーティスト)でもブッキングしろよな～｣と2人で爆笑｡

最後の曲になるとまたオーナーと思われる男性が近寄ってくる。自分が「これが最後の曲だ」と伝えると,「そう願いたい」と言う。「警察が今向かっ ている」と続ける。またその嫌味のこもった嘘を無視して,ようやくキーを確認した"Easter Romantic"を演奏してショーは無事終了。片付けの途中に手を休め人と話していると警備員がやってきて自分の方をじっと見ている。「何かようか？」 と尋ねると「いや,別に...ただ早く帰らないかな～と思って...」それを聞いた自分は返事をしないでメンバーの所に行く。皆が観に来てくれた友人と話 しているところを割って入り,「もうここを出よう」と言うと皆がここの店の人間から嫌味を言われたようで,直ぐに自分の意図が伝わったようで「ああ,とっ とと出よう」と片付けに入る。雨は弱くなっていた。

Houstonの都心近くのモーテルを二部屋かりる。自分はJaredと相部屋。濡れた服を乾かしニュースをネット見て直ぐに就寝。ショー自体は良かったが店の人間の所為でかなり悪い印象が残った夜になってしまった。
